💜 Week 8: The Power of Us

As we prepare to close out the first nine weeks, we want to encourage every student to finish strong! This is a great time to focus on giving our best effort, showing responsibility by completing our work, and staying engaged in our classrooms. When we give our best effort, even when learning is challenging. That is how we learn, grow, and get better every day!

We have completed our first round of CBAs (Curriculum-Based Assessments). Our teachers will be digging into this data together to celebrate successes, identify areas for growth, and determine how we can best meet the needs of every student through high-level whole-group instruction and targeted small groups.

Next Friday, we are excited to welcome the Fire Department to Colt! During Specials, students will participate in an interactive lesson and experience focused on fire safety.

🥫 Battle of the Cans Update: We have only collected 83 cans so far! We need our Colt commUNITY to help us pick up the pace! Please send canned goods with your student so we can work toward being the top collecting campus while, most importantly, helping support families in our community.

🏫 Open House is coming soon! We are looking forward to welcoming our families into Colt and making the evening interactive. Families will have an opportunity to learn math games to practice at home, practice “Stop & Jot” strategies while reading, and see student data and goals for the year. We can't wait to learn alongside you!

Thank you for partnering with us and being such an important part of our Colt commUNITY. The Power of Us starts with all of us working together! 💜💛

Daily Information

  • Doors open at 7:15 am
  • Announcements and Pledges start at 7:35 am
  • Tardy bell rings at 7:45 am
  • Transportation Request/Change called in by 2:00 pm
  • Dismissal begins at 3:15 pm

How do I request a change in transportation?
Submit an email on the same day as the transportation change request by 1:30 p.m. to dtorres@mfisd.txed.net or call the office at 830-693-3474 by 1:30 pm.

Include the following details in the email/phone call:
  • Student’s full name
  • Student’s grade level
  • Student’s homeroom teacher
  • The transportation change you want made for today (bus rider to car rider or car rider to bus rider, etc.)

Requests made after 2:00 pm will not be processed.

All visitors will need to scan their driver's license or other valid ID at the start of each time you come to campus. All visitors must sign-in at the front office before entering our campus.

For arrival: In the morning, please have your child ready to exit the vehicle on the passenger side with all items ready to leave the car (lunch box, backpack, etc.). We appreciate you staying in line and not going around vehicles in front of you to help with the traffic flow.

For dismissal: We will dismiss beginning at 3:15. Please remain in your car in line and do not walk up to the front of the building during dismissal. Please be patient with our staff as we work to ensure that all of our students get home safely. Expect longer than normal wait times as we become familiar with new routines, students, and families. Staff members will be in the carline typing names into a spreadsheet for our staff inside the building. For this reason, you MUST have your CAR TAG displayed in the window for our staff members to easily type the name. Extra car tags are available in the front office.

🚗 Car Line Tag Requirement for Dismissal 🚗

To ensure a safe and smooth dismissal process, all families must follow our Car Line Tag procedure:
  • Car Line Tags are REQUIRED to be displayed in your front car window during afternoon pick-up.
  • A staff member stationed on the hill will enter your Car Tag number into our dismissal system.
  • This system helps our inside staff quickly and efficiently prepare your child(ren) to load into your car.
  • At Meet the Teacher, one Car Line Tag will be placed in the homeroom of your oldest Colt student.
  • If you need an additional tag or have not received one yet, please see Mrs. Meza in the cafeteria during Meet the Teacher.

Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe, organized, and efficient for all students!

Lunch Times

LUNCH

Families are welcome to come eat lunch with their child. This can be a special time to visit with their child about their day or to bring lunch from your favorite place if you would like to! Anyone that comes to eat with a child needs to be listed in Skyward. Families must sit at a table separate from the lunch tables to eat lunch as we do not allow parents to sit at student tables. At this time we are asking that they not bring any friends with them to the table when they sit with their families.

Photography/videoing is strictly prohibited in the cafe to respect the privacy of all students.

Thursday Folder

Thursday Folders (Communication)

We use Thursday Folders to communicate with families. These folders will be sent home each week on Thursday. Please review all the graded work/Flyers, and sign every Thursday next to the corresponding date. Thursday folders are to be returned to school every Friday.

Grade level or TEAM newsletters will go home monthly. Please look for these the 1st Thursday of the month.

No Glass

Waterbottles

PLEASE send a water bottle with your child. It is very hot outside during recess!

We want to make sure that students are hydrated, especially during these hot days.

  • No glass water bottles. This is a safety concern if dropped/broken
  • Make sure that your child's first and last name are on the water bottle

ATTENDANCE

This is an exampleEach week we will post attendance by grade level and homeroom teacher's class. Our goal is to be above 96% attendance for all grade levels each week.

Our campus goal is to increase our overall attendance by 1% per our Campus Improvement Plan. To help us meet this goal, Colt will recognize student perfect attendance every 9 weeks, award a weekly "Golden Present" to the grade level with the most students "present" that week, and report attendance to parents through the newsletter.

Each week, the grade level with the highest attendnace will have an incentive announced at assembly. Please help by getting your child to school on time each day and stay throughout the day!

Attendance Guideline:

The limit is 10 unexcused absences in a year. A Truancy Prevention Plan is required after 5 unexcused absences. This allows open communication and a plan to help resolve any issue.

Our campus goal is to increase our overall attendance by 1% per our Campus Improvement Plan. To help us meet this goal, Colt will recognize student perfect attendance every 9 weeks, award a weekly "Golden Present" to the grade level with the most students "present" that week, and report attendance to parents through the Smore newsletter.
